Like following your favorite sports team
The boys in the late 90s were like following your favorite team. They can't win every game, some nights they look like champs, other nights also-rans. But you could always find a little something that keeps you optimistic. And the GD were like a baseball franchise in that they played so many shows. No way were they going to throw no-hitters or hit ten home runs a show. Anyway, I grew up in Philly but lived in Tennessee during most of my touring days. So it was always nice to be back home at the Spectrum for a run. I caught the Sat-Sun, and people knock Jerry left and right for '95 shows, but anyone who was there to hear Visions or Johanna on the 18th (listen to it now on archive) witnessed an amazing performance of perhaps Dylan's best song. That was the home run like I mentioned that kept you wanting more and kept you rooting for the "team." And the setlist on the 19th wasn't spectacular, but it was nice to hear Alabama in advance of the Birmingham shows I'd attend a few weeks later. If you were there for the Unbroken, the hair on your neck still rises when you take yourself back to that moment etched in time. Yeah, after that it just became another We Want Phil tune. But that moment was like a ticker-tape parade for the champions. Five stars for goose bumps, and hugging strangers all around you; end of story.

No sense grumblin' ....
About any 95 show. Most were awful in comparison. This one is really no different other than the fact that they busted out Unbroken. The song selection was awful - 6 new songs throughout and 3 in the first set alone? And it was only a 6 pack 1st set to top it off. Thank goodness one of those songs was Unbroken. Jerry doesn't always sound bad, but when he does it makes ya wince. Surprisingly, I am ok with the sound quality. Its not great but for an aud. tape its fine. 2 star show that gets a bump to three for the Unbroken Chain crowd reaction.

Broken Hearted...
I remember getting in this nite in philly (thanks again to the slickster who miracled me!) and I was all the way at the top of the spectrum. I had been becoming increasingly alarmed by how awful Jer was looking in the summer and then fall/winter and west coast runs of 94, and by the time this spring run started I was nervous that the end was near. There was a big debate among my traveling buddies about whether or not they would break out that unbroken chain that everyone had heard was sound checked on the 17th. Everyone thought that they wouldn't trot it out because Jerry would get lost trying to play it. But true to form, and despite his obviously sad state of decline, The Dead did what they always did and drove their fans nuts by letting it all hang out. I had heard from a reliable source that a lot of the new material they were playing was to keep Jerry interested and focused. When We finally realized they were playing it the place went nuts. Listen to it on the AUD, it just goes on forever. I cant say the show was exciting or well played, but I'll give it 3 stars just for doing what they did for the fans. I always say "A bad Grateful Dead Show (and I've seen a lot) is still better than anything else out there."

It would be my pleasure......
...to bash you Sedula.I wasn `t fortunate to be inside on this nite, made the other shows.Ok maybe a weak song selection, but thats all you got right! Were you even at this show, for real. The band executed with percise musical overlays on most every tune. The only thing weaker than the song selection would most definetly have been YOU!Furthermore,I`ve never said this,I can`t believe i`l say it now.But never have I been somewhat glad to miss a night then this, otherwise i would be embarassed by your presence and lack of musical appreciation.Open your ears man,let him play!!

Weak show!
This is a weak show without Unbroken Chain. With it I think it is even weaker because it demonstrates how Jerry couldn't handle playing the song, especially the solo section.
The "new" songs in the second set were all boring to say the least (Corrina, Mathilda, Wave to the Wind).
Slam me if you want but when I saw Unbroken Chain I was embarrassed for the band and Jerry. They don't even play the begining of the song correctly on any the ones they did. I would give the show 1.5 stars if I could, but I rounded it up to 2.
